privacy policy

cyrisia.com is a free reader for light novels, web novels and comics, run by one person as a hobby. this page says what data the site handles, why, and how to have it removed. you don't need an account to read.

accounts

if you register, the site stores your email address, username, password (hashed with argon2, never in plain text) and, if you add them, a display name, bio and avatar. it also stores what you do while signed in: chapters and volumes you mark read, your reading history, favourites and library statuses, the downloaded-volume list that syncs between your devices, your comments and upvotes, and anything you submit to the library.

profiles are public by default: your username, display name, avatar, bio and reading lists can be seen by others. you can make your profile private in your account settings. your email address is never shown.

comments and guestbook

comments store the name shown, the text, the time and the chapter you tagged; signed-in comments are linked to your profile. comments don't store your ip address (it's used briefly in memory to stop spam). guestbook entries store your name, message, time and ip address, for moderation. both are shown publicly, without your email or ip.

visitor statistics

to count visitors and see what's popular, the server records page views, the ip addresses of visitors with the first and last day each was seen, and which series are viewed. an ip address's country is looked up through ip-api.com, which receives that address. these numbers are only used for the site's own statistics (like the trending list); they aren't sold or used to build ad profiles.

cookies and storage on your device

the only cookie is the session cookie that keeps you signed in. your browser's own storage keeps your theme, reader settings, reading position and similar preferences; downloaded books and pages saved for offline reading stay on your device. you can clear all of it from your browser's settings.

other services your browser talks to

- book files are stored with cloudflare r2; your browser downloads them from cloudflare, which sees your ip address.
- comic pages are loaded by your browser straight from the site that hosts them (the source named on the series). that site receives your ip address and browser details, as with any image on the web; cyrisia doesn't tell it which page you came from.
- web novel chapters are fetched by cyrisia's server from their source, so the source doesn't see you.
- fonts come from google fonts, and the epub reader's code from cdnjs and jsdelivr.
- avatars: accounts without an uploaded picture get a generated one from dicebear, which your browser loads.
- ads: the site may show ads from a third-party ad network. when it does, that network may use cookies or collect device information under its own privacy policy. ads are never shown on mature series.
- links to ko-fi and discord follow those services' own policies.

sharing

your personal data isn't sold, rented or shared with anyone, except with the services above as they're used, or where the law requires it.

how long data is kept

account data is kept until you delete it or ask for it to be deleted. comments and guestbook entries stay until they're removed by you or by moderation. visitor statistics are kept to count visitors over time; ask and your ip address will be removed from them.

your rights

you can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or its deletion at any time: email srslycyrisia@gmail.com, from your account's email address for account data. accounts are for people aged 13 and over.

changes

this policy is updated when the site changes; the date below shows the latest version.
