Jacob Cloud is a sixteen-year-old boy, the son of a miner, who is acutely aware of his grim destiny: to perish young, impoverished, and unremarkable in the depths of Shit Creek, a forgotten town that supplies silver ore to wealthier cities while burying its sons in pine coffins. He aspires for something greater. In this realm, Knights hold a higher status than Adventurers—they serve as protectors, guides, and, above all, heroes. However, to pursue a Knight's life, one requires gold, rare Skills, and connections that Jacob will never possess. One fateful day, the mine’s floor collapses. Jacob plunges—not to his demise, but into an extraordinary opportunity: a Rainbow-ranked Skill Crystal, an item so precious that people are willing to kill for it, and so potent it could elevate a nobody to legendary status. Except Jacob doesn't acquire a weapon or a healing Skill. He receives The Grimoire Extraordinaire—a support Skill that lacks any offensive, defensive, or healing capabilities. Its sole function is to reveal the shortcomings in any Skill or item, nothing else. No immediate power. No fame. However, Jacob is no fool. He perseveres. He experiments. He employs the Grimoire to refine the fundamentals: how to hold a pick, how to channel mana, how to train. Within five days trapped underground, he enhances his mining skills to a level that would make nobles envious. When he finally escapes, he is prepared to leave the mines behind for good.
